The
main sandy beaches are either side of the harbour. East beach
(Milsey Bay), with its paddling pond, and West beach (West Bay).
Towards the east end of the East beach theres a small stream
suitable for making dams. The East beach also has, depending
on the state of the tide, lots of rocks and pools for endless
fun. Three miles west is Yellowcraig with views across
to the island of Fidra, believed to be the inspiration for Robert
Louis Stevensons "Treasure Island". Four miles
east is Seacliff beach, reached by a single-track road
(£3 entry charge for vehicles). With the closest mainland
views of Bass and at its western end (nearest to Tantallon Castle)
the UKs smallest harbour, cut out of the rocks, where Jack
Dale moors his lobster fishing boat, Seacliff is a hidden gem. |
