Open Friday to Tuesday from October to March. Admission free.
Bus route 121. Two galleries, one with exhibitions from the Museum
Service collections and the other with a programme of changing
exhibitions drawn from and suggested by the local community.
The Land and the Sea permanent exhibition has many items associated
with East Lothians past as a maritime trading hub. |
MUSSELBURGH:
Musselburgh
Museum,

Saturday 10.30am 4pm from March to November. Bus route
124 and X24. Exhibitions include Raise your Glass,
a history of brewing and malting in Musselburgh, and an exhibition
to celebrate the racecourse bicentenary. |
NEWTONGRANGE:
National
Mining Museum Scotland, Lady Victoria Colliery, EH22 4QN.
Tel: 0131 663 7519. Open 7 days a week, 10am 5pm. Next
to Newtongrange station on the new Borders Railway with direct
trains from Edinburgh Waverley every 30mins. Lady Victoria Colliery,
home of the National Mining Museum Scotland, opened in 1895 as
Scotlands first super-pit and ceased production in 1981.
It now serves as an example of one of the best preserved Victorian
Collieries in Europe and captures the developments in mining
over generations. |
NORTH
BERWICK: Coastal Communities Museum, School
Road, EH39 4JU. Tel: 01620 894313. Open 11am 4pm, Wednesday
to Sunday, in April, July and August. Otherwise 11am - 4pm, Saturday
and Sunday, from May to November. Also open UK Public Holiday
Mondays. Admission free, donations welcome. Reopened in 2013,
the museum has put on seven exhibitions to date. See OUT &

PRESTONPANS:
Prestongrange Museum, Morrisons Haven, EH32 4RX.
Tel: 0131 653 2904. Open Monday to Sunday 11.30am 4.30pm
from April to September. From October to March the site is still
open to be explored. Admission free. Bus routes 124 and X24.
For centuries Prestongrange was a place of intense industrial
activity. A harbour, glass works, pottery, colliery and brickworks
have all left their marks. The site is a haven for wildlife where
you are free to roam and explore relics of Scotlands industrial
heritage. Theres pit head winding gear, a Cornish beam
engine, vast brick kiln, coal wagons, a steam crane and much
more. |
